Hi all here's is the problem I had this radio in
my van took it out and put it in my basement for a while before I hooked it up to a power supply and antenna when I turned the radio on the fuse blew. Replaced fuse and it blew . where would I look for the problem? I am not good with electronics .

If the + and - aren't reversed, open up the radio and look right at the back where plug is mounted in the chassis. There is a diode there on that plug (I think). That could be the problem. Then there is one on the PCB, D93. If I'm correct, this could be your problem. I also know electrolytic cap's dry out with age, maybe that's a problem?

C195 could be shorted? Maybe D29? Check those first and see.

i had a TRISTAR 240(hunk-a-junk) that used the SAME, STANDARD 3 PIN PLUG with 1 flat end & 1 rounded end-just like MOST radios use. only difference is, the + & - ARE REVERSED from the factory, even the 'red & black' cable has the colors on the opposite ends, as compared to 'normal' radios. made for some interesting problems 1st time it was brought to me 'to be looked at'. i plugged it in on the bench & POOF. popped the fuse. again & again. put a BIG fuse in it & the diode went. more then once. into customers car after replacing diode again. worked fine. tested it out in his car. later, checked MY stuff & STILL couldn't figure out what was up-my stuff all worked fine. a year or more later, i acquired that radio, & went through the whole mess again, so i threw it up on the shelf. YEARS later, looking for some internal parts, i opened it up, & after going through it for a while, looked at power cord & PRESTO!
before i finally sold that radio, i reversed the power connections so it would use a standard cable-didn't ever wanna see it again!

I feel like someone is trying to stomp on my toes!

I didn't mean that what you said couldn't be the issue Cheesy.

I just made suggestions. My friend Pat.
