I have 213 coax that I am going to use with the station. I got a piece of rg8 in a grab box from Copper. It was the fat stuff likethe 213. Is it OK to mix the coax or should I make all my jumpers out of the 213? Hate to waste a good piece of coax. **What do you think TECH's** Wildrat TECH NOTE Use it! |

Wildrat, use it, I have rg8(the big stuff) from the antenna to inside the house and use mini 8 to connect my accessories between the radio and antenna, SWR is 1.1:1 across the band and have no other problems. |

Well I went and looked at that piece of 8 that was in the grab box and it is the foam type so I decided to use it for a belt to beat the dawg with. Just kidding about beating the dawg with it, I have a aluminum bat for that. You got to keep them dawgs straight or they will be wanting to bite you or chew on your coax. Wildrat CEF674 |

Any type of 50 ohm coax would work well for jumpers. JIM/PA/CEF

I'd rather use my good stuff than that foam stuff, I might use it for a jumper to sell at a flea market. |

I decided that I was going to make jumpers today. I figured I would use RG8X to make jumpers and use them before the box. I started looking at the RG8X I had. I have a bunch. I sorted the coax into 4 piles by manufacture. One pile and one 3 foot jumper was Tandy coax (foam insulator) it's in the don't use, wonder where it came from pile. Second pile has some coax made by: International wire and cable co. It had the foam/poly insuator, as did the third pile which we will call no name grey stuff, this coax is probably OK, I used it with my Texas Star 500, I'm sure it would be fine for the jumpers before the box. The insulator on this stuff was just a bit more flexible than the coax in the forth pile. The coax in the forth pile is S.I.W. RG8X grey stuff. It has a foam/poly insulator on it also but it is a little less flexible than pile two and three. Pile four appears to have more poly than foam. It came from Copper. Pile two(International wire & cable came from a friend who had a little shop in south Georgia, and the grey no name stuff came from a larger comm. business in Valdosta, Georgia. While on the subject of Valdosta, Georgia if you have never been there, you are not missing anything. The forth pile S.I.W. RG8X will be the coax I use to make my jumpers, at least till I run out. I use a RCI 2995Dx Base with built- in amp, so, i have no jumpers in-line./ In the car i have a small KL amp and use a piece of mini coax for greater flexibility. Good luck with your jumper making... Hope pile 4 doesn't run dry on ya... JIM/PA/CEF 375

Yea, the jumper making is slow. I came in here this AM to make jumpers before going to the doctor, and all I have done is ck the email, come here, and dose off in front of the computer. I am going to make a cup of tea now, I should go back to coffee drinking. I don't use sugar when I drink coffee, but I feel I need it when I make tea to get the taste just right. Oh well, this may explain why the antenna is not up yet. I keep falling asleep. I know if I don't get some excercise of some sort so I can burn some cals and get the blood flowing I will be dead by the time I'm 50 (in a couple of years) An injury later in life is not a good thing, Workers comp should be made to pay by the government for those workers who actually are hurt. The ones that fake injuries make it terrible for truly injured. Everyday it's pain meds, everyday it's still pain, It's ashame our government is for the politician and not the people. Republicans,Democrats whats it matter they are all crooks with their own agendas. I guess I should start on those jumpers. I think I have enough SIW RG8X for the jumpers I need to make. I've got about 21 feet and none of my jumpers need to be over three feet. Wildrat |
