IS this radio good for AM, or mainly for SSB? I have read great comments on this forum regarding SSB.
But for running down the highway on channel 19 as the example, how good is it?

YES this radio is GREAT for AM or SB Use. 
It is truly one of the FINEST Radios ever produced for AM/SSB Use.
