What I was wondering is how many Amps is the Cobra 200 drawing? What size power supplys/Amps are owners running for this radio? What is the smallest Amp power supply can be used on this radio with it still working allright?

Mine pulls 15 amps on keyup. I run a 40 amp constant supply with a 50 amp surge.

What kind of power output increase do you get from 13.8v to 15v? Does that big 'ol heatsink get any warmer at 15v?

i spoke to one of the HORRIBLE sounding local 200gtl dx's this AM. it sounded much better then the last time i heard it. it's a newer one with 2290's in it. he was running it on a 20 amp PS. he got an astron 50 amper, with variable voltage. however, the variable voltage as measured on an external meter does NOT exceed 14 volts he says-if it EVEN reaches 14v. he is NOT happy with the barely 100 watts he is seeing, but in all honesty, it SOUNDS like a completely different radio after hearing it on the 20 amp PS vs the 50 amp PS. MAYBE that is a key to their performance-sufficient power to it??

i asked him about the receive-he said it's good....but too much bleedover. OK........
