dirland, maybe? most are ept3600-10?? galaxy clones, superstar 3900, etc.

does 2990 swing BIG watts? an old trick was to replace power supply caps with BIG 50 watt 3300's, or something like that. not always a cure-all, but it helped.

Since nobody posted so far I'll jump in. I really don'y know much about these radios but I have heard that the older RCI radios have had many problems including transformers going bad. The company has improved the radios lately. Maybe you can contact RCI for any help. I don't know? Sorry I cannot be of any more help. Never heard of the export Duland. Might be an FM cb? Try a Google search. CEF491

Dirland (France) made a lot of SuperStar and Galaxy clones. I Don't know if they still exist??? As for the 2990, they are the same as the Galaxy Saturn Turbo, and the Eagle 5000. They have all had the same problems with the power supplies going bad. Usually it takes a whole re-build of the power supply including new regulators, rectifiers, and heatsink compound. Not only were the supplies pooly designed but some came off the line poorly assembled, contributing to the failures in the powersupply (like poor use or lack of use of heat-sink compound and using multiple insulators on semiconductors causing over-heat failure). This, with the use of under-rated componants and the slightest boost in demand from the supply after a tune-up, and failure comes quickly. I'm not bashing RCI, this is just what I have seen over the years with these radios...My Turbo has the power supply totally gutted and is now powered with a 20A external supply-much better...

Thats funny, I have problems with a brand neww 2985dx onlt have it 4 months but it has been in twice for bad power supply.

they have it three weeks now and I am realy getting sick of not having my radio.

you would think ranger would fix these problems.

Just got my 2985dx back from ranger and it is fixed this time. the problem was a bad power supply and bad power pass transitors. The radio works like new and no dimming display at all anymore. hope this info helps someone.
