What kind of coax are you guys using?

I was told that LMR 400 is the best but is worth the price?

Thanks.

We use RG-213 for most everything.

Personally we have just never found any reason to warrant the extra cost of using lmr400.

this is just me, but i think that the shielding on LMR400 is tighter than on the RG8 and RG213.
most important is to get the connectors installed correctly.

hotwire I'm with you ...

On HF I use mini 8 on all bands and even use it on 6 meters. NOW on 2 and 440 LMR-400 is king.

in your case, blackhawk, i'd go with a 9086/9913 type with DOUBLE SHIELD & high percent braid coverage as added insurance against rfi problems. i use it in my mobile & it eliminated most of the rfi problems there too. i don't think added watts & anything LESS then 213 is a good idea.

I use mini 8 for mobile and 213 for base, but I really like that coax Porkchop makes from copper wire and duct tape.

Keep in mind that although you may not cause TV interference that there are other things susceptible that really cannot be helped with grounding. You are adding a substantial amount to concentrated AM power in a relatively small area of homes (I read other post too). For example I have my rig grounded to the HILT, it has it's own ground, runs off DC power and never touches the home grounding system, except for the rod bonding. I still have problems with computers and speakers. They do pick it up quite well and I rarely use 100W.

The soundcard ground is often not ground (shield of plug) on most computers. The speaker's line level input wire becomes a great receive antenna! This happens on my wife and kid's computer. My work computer on the other hand is an audio machine used for music mastering. I have 1300 Watts of solid state power hooked to this thing with uber efficient speakers, and another 80 watts of tube power hooked to it. Everything is grounded and can be powered up during transmit without interference. It's also higher in the home and closer to the antenna. So if you have neighbors with computers and consumer level audio equipment you may have issues regardless of your grounding scheme. At which point it's time to kindly help your neighbors with the problems associated.

Best luck!

Chad
