I always use an external speaker but I noticed the internal speaker doesn't work, don't know how long this has been. The external speaker works fine but when I unplug the external.....nothing. I have tested the speaker on another radio and there is nothing wrong with the speaker. I figure it has to be a capacitor or some other 99 cent part. Can anyone give me any ideas? Even though the radio works 100% with the external speaker the fact that there is any kind of problem with my radio bothers me. Thanks in advance.

The switching in the jack has failed. I am a fan of switchcraft plugs unfortunately they are just a tad larger, I had one ruin my jack on my magnum 257, I now have a switch to mute the internal speaker :-)

Also check for failed solder joints on the ext speaker jack.

It was a pain in the neck but I swapped out that jack for another one from a parts radio.....we are back in business. Good call!
