A friend gave me this radio and it looks brand new. The modulation was down and when I adjusted the pot it brought volume up also and you can turn volume down and it is still to loud. the modulation pot turns volume up also. Does anyone know how I can get around this or tell me where I can get info on this radio? All help will be greatly appreciated.

Unit199,

Sorry Harve but I never seen one before.

I had to go to Rig-Pix to find a picture of one.

After checking about 20 sites the only info I could find is the PLL is suppossed to be a s199ba with no frequency mods for it.

I will do more checking when i get the time and see if I can come up with any other info on it for you.

harve, usually when you ask for repair advice for such an obscure radio, people are hesitant to offer advice because usually their honest advice is, "junk it! its not worth fixing."
no one wants to come off as rude or unhelpful, so they just choose to move on to another post.

so, i'll give you my advice. (im no tech)
that radio would only be worth $10.00 in perfect condition at a garage sale, and isnt worth messing with.
sure, its fun to learn, and everyone likes a challenge, but it comes down to the fact that you are going to have to spend money on parts to fix it, and that money would be better spent on parts for a radio worth putting them in.
brand new, Sparkomatics were the equivilent of Kracos. they were sold at auto parts stores and K-mart.

Matt, I don't want to fix anything on it, because it works fine. All I want to do is bring modulation up to around 90%, but the modulation adjustment also brings up receive volume and it makes it too loud on receive and I was just wandering if there was a way to get around this. I just want it to operate properly like I do all my radios, whether cheap or expensive.

Harve - Can you see a number on the board? I'm not an AM fan, but maybe someone who has a similar radio can help you. Also, can you post a pic of it so we all can see it?

Matt - Before you pass judgement you have to see this beautiful radio. I'd be glad to have one in my collection.

hollowpoint, you're right! its very pretty.

sorry harve, didnt mean to jump to conclusions.

i would be happy to have one too.
as for your question; it seems very strange that the modulation pot also turns up the receive volume.
my GUESS would be that the info you have is wrong, and that pot is actually for the AGC or the RF gain circuit.
this happens alot with typos on the net that get passed on as fact.
i'll look in the info i have and tell you what my info says.
what pot are you turning?

Hollowpoint445, yes it is a vey nice looking radio and I am glad that it was given to me. I will look and see if I can find a number on the board. I will try and post a picture of it.

I was thinking about this post and I thought the purpose of this area of the forum along with the other areas were to help people. What differance does it make how much it cost or what kind it is? Maybe this could be a persons only radio and he can't afford to buy another one. If you are not going to help with question about radio, then don't post. Just my opinion.

Matt, yes I was referring to you, because I thought you were more or less telling me that I was taking up peoples time for a junk radio. I thank you for spending the time to try and help me. I looked all over for info on this radio and I still haven't found anything. Again I appreciate your trying to help as it is greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this would help at all, but this radio looks exactly like the Lloyd's A510.

I googled Lloyd's A510 and couldn't find anything about it, but another Copper forum member has a Lloyd's A510 - The_rev. You might want to email him to see if he has any information.
