4:1 PEP to carrier.

That radio is capable of 100% modulation up to about 5 watts of carrier - WITH the limiter properly adjusted. It doesn't need to be deactivated.

I don't know how you're measuring the modulation, but if it's not with an oscilloscope then you are not going to get an accurate measurement.

You do not have to do very much to a Grant XL for it to sound good. NPC mods are pretty cool but you don't even have to do that to the XL . I'd put the limiter back together , will mess up the audio on SSB as well )-: I dont know what kind of meter your using ? but chances are your way over 100% modulation with the clip )-: and theres really no such thing. Are you running a amp ? if the 2.5 watt DK is what you want ? with a ballpark 100% modulation you should see about a 10 watt swing with the limiter back in place. You can just let your amp take care of the rest.If no amp is used ? About 5 to 20 ballpark with 100% modulation would be nice . 4 to 1 That's a very well made receiving and transmitting radio that doesn't need to be raped.
