Is the ETA still in Feb?? I need a new Radio for my truck and from all the raving about this radio, I think this is the one for me. |

Lon, I have a problem with my Magnum 257 (blue face) that I caused. While wiring a power mic I touched acrossed pin #6 to ground and now the stock mic does not work. I know that pin #6 is 13.8 volts and that the stock mic needs it to work, my question to you or anybody who knows,is there a fuse I can change inside the radio? Otherwise the radio still works fine with the power mic. Thank you in advance. Jim. |

No fuse but there may be a protection resistor, I'll need to dig out the schematics tonight. Did you not get a set of prints with the radio?

Chad- I bought the radio used and don't have any manuel or prints. Thank you for your help, I'm hoping it's something I can fix. I have a little experience with a sodering iron. |

OK, There is no resistor there to protect from this. BUT, There is an inductor L404 It's 4.7uH and may be quite small, if so then the sudden amount of current would shread it. Take a look at this, just follow pin 6's connection back and you should see it. It will then split off to R458 @ 4.7K and the power switch.
If I were you I would put a 0-Ohm 1/4W resistor in series with pin 6 after the inductor. I will the next time mine is open  I know we have been warned of the potential of damage but come on, unbridled 13.8V in a mic cable? A cable failure could be bad eh?
Sooo, If it lights up and works well including mic channel changing functions, you should be pretty much in the clear. Best luck!

It has the appearance of a "green" resistor with bands of different colors too.Thought this may be of help.Afriend of mine had an old school delta that had this problem and the "tech" that looked at it said it had a blown "resistor".LOL!!!!

Yep if it's VERY green it's an axial inductor. If it's grey/green it's a flame proof resistor. Check it for continuity, is it open?
