Hi I just recently got a used Texas Ranger TR966 and my buddies on the cb are telling me I am splatering them. I also run a cobra 148 and it is not causing the problem. I was wondering if maybe the limiter had been removed? I am not sure where to look in the radio to find where it should be, Is it a resistor, diode or transistor? and what would the replacement be what number/value so I can put it back in? Other than that problem the radio seems to be nice.

google 'defpom' & go to radio mods/CB. you can look at TR 'any 900 series', also galaxy 949, 959, 2547 amongst others-all the same, all mods work on each radio.

Q39 is limiter transistor, hopefully, they just snipped or unsoldered 1 leg-just replace it. look for any other resistor sticking up in the air(1 side removed) & replace if so. as for any other butcher-splatter mod...good luck. on the website, check for VR's for AM & SSB modulation, you probably will need to back off a bit.
