I was reading through a bunch of old CB magazines from the 70s, and there was an article explaining how to build a CB rhombic antenna. The author said the thing would have a 14dBd gain in the direction of it's front lobe.
I use the old pasture (3 acres) for experimentation, so I thought I might build one and aim it up toward the northern US. Before I do, though, I'd like to know if any of y'all have ever built one of these things. If so, how did you like it?
I know I could just stack a couple of M108s, but I was thinking that I might try one rhombic pointed north. If that works, I could add three more (south,east, & west), and switch them with a remote coax switch. That way I wouldn't have to bother with a tower, beams, etc.

Yes it can be done at CB 3 acres would work the ARRL antenna handbooks used to cover them. |

i run 2 of them.
works a lil better the a moonraker 4.
there's web site out there that has a "rombic calculator" to help you with height width & lengh. |

Thanks for the advice, y'all! I'll see if I can hunt up an old ARRL handbook. I'm gonna have to see if I can find the rhombic calculator, too.
I might even try one on 75 meters as I have trouble getting out to the California area on AM sometimes. I'll bet a rhombic down there would be something else!

A yagi will is more effecient and will outperform any wire or vertical on any band that it is designed for provided it is mounted high enough. At high frequencies, such as 27mhz, yagis are small...and it doesn't take much to get them up at a reasonable height. A rhombic isn't very practical, nor much of a performer at 27mhz. |

works for me...
& out performs my moonraker 4.
yes, yagis are easier to put up & turn.
& hight rules
there's no magic antenna base or mobile.
bigger is better tx & rx...
especially on the hf bands. |
