Was assembling Maco 3 element beam and noticed no slots were cut in any of the ends on center tubes.
Can I just slot them 1/2 inch with hacksaw so the clamps will cinch down and hold ends? |

MACO did not design it to have slots.
I guess if you really want to cut slots in it you can but personally I would not and suggest you just Follow the Assembly instructions without cutting anything.
And just a tip (Run your rope thru all of the elements BEFORE you assemble them) and DOUBLE CHECK all measurements "BEFORE" you tighten the set screws down.

Yeah I planned on running rope through them as suggested in instructions. Seems like a smart idea.
I am getting a 30 foot telescopic mast. Any suggestions an type of guy wire to use?
I have heard of using nylon rope but do not want it to break down over time. |

3/32" "Dacron" polyesther or 3/32" "Kevlar" guy "rope". The "Dacron" will have a little initial stretch...the Kevlar, just install it...won't stretch at all. Both will be long life guys...will take any weather and not breakdown from sunlight (UV)for many, many years. The "nylon rope" would work, but requires larger diameter for strength...many "nylon ropes" won't take the sun for much time. Generally the "nylon ropes" that are black in color hold up better than some of the other "nylons". The "Kevlar" stuff is, nowadays, what most manufacters of long-boom (30 to 55 foot & even longer) yagis are supplying for boom support. Many tower manufacturers are now suggesting the larger diameter (3/16 & 5/16") "Kevlar" for their guyed towers, rather than the conventional metallic guy cables. Very good stuff. |
