Here's the info from CB Tricks for the PLL alignment. Before you do it, just set the clarifier at 12:00.
--------------------
1. Initially connect unit to be adjusted as shown in Fig.1. Next adjust each knobs as follows:
a) Channel Selector 19CH
b) Mode Switch USB
c) PA - CB Switch CB
d) CLARIFIER Center
e) P.T.T. RX
f) ON - OFF/VOLUME "ON"
g) Other knobs Optional

2. Set Channel Selector to 40CH Adjust oscilloscope to DC range and connect "+" Probe to TP1 and "-" to L22 Jumper. Adjust L19 so that voltage of TP1 becomes 3.5V. Moreover, check when adjustment is completed, change Channel Selector to 1CH and the voltage of TP1 should be 2V or more.
After completing the above change back Channel Selector to 19CH.

3.Connect Oscilloscope to TP2 and adjust L21 to its peak.

4. Connect Oscilloscope to TP3 and adjust L20 to its peak

5. Adjust L59 by similar connection of (4) to obtain within 34.9865MHz +/-20Hz as will be indicated by frequency counter, then set Mode switch back to "AM".

6. Change moode switch to "AM" and adjust L23 to obtain within 34.985 +/-20Hz

NOTE: BEFORE ALIGNMENT SET VR1 VR2 TO MINIMUM CURRENT, ROTATE VR1 (CCW) VR2 (CCW) and VR6 (CCW).

7. Change Mode switch to LSB and adjust L22 to obtain within 34.9835MHz +/-20Hz as to be indicated by freq counter.

8. Convert PTT switch to TX and set the unit to the same mode. Adjust VR5 to within 34 9835MHz +/-20Hz and then set PTT to RX mode.

9. Convert Mode switch to USB, connect "+' Oscilloscope Probe to TP5 and '-' to L22 ,jumper, and adjust CT2 to within 7.80MHz +5/ -0Hz to be indicated by freq counter.

10. Convert Mode switch to LSB and adjust L30 to obtain within 7.7985MHz +0/-5Hz as to be indicated by freq, counter.

11. Convert Mode switch to "AM" and PTT switch to TX mode. Adjust L31 to within 7.8MHz +/-5Hz as to be indicated by freq, counter.

12. When above adjustment are completed, align once more (5) - (11) to check it property completed.

i would do the alignment if you have the test equipment.
you at least need a freq. counter or at least a freq. readout.

if the clarifier is unlocked, center the clarifier knob, key the mic, and adjust L23 in the AM mode for 27.1850 on ch.19.

if not, you will need a real freq. counter to adjust L23 for 34.????mhz
and VR5 will adjust the TX freq. adjust this for 27.185 on ch.19.

im4jc, where did you get the alignment info from.
the reason i ask is that i have the service manual for the 2000gtl which is the same chassis, and the freqs. i have are:
AM 34.7650
USB 34.7665
LSB 34.7635

the manual i have does have one or more typos in it that i know of.
can we trust your source?
thanks for any help you can give,
matt

Kid_Vicious: I posted an answer, but I guess links to CB Tricks aren't allowed.

Anyway, it's at Cb Tricks under Grant LT. I don't know first hand if the info is correct.

we need a confirmation here from someone.
i can tell you that i use the numbers that i gave to tune my 148gtl and it it dead on freq. with clarifier centered.
i would guess that means its ok.

but the other info on that site seems to be good, so i cant say that it might just be a bit different for the grant LT.
i have never aligned one so i dont know.
any techs on here care to give some clarification?
and while you're at it, what voltage do you turn the VCO to on ch.40?
2.7?
3.2?
3.5?
im seeing too many variations here.
matt
