Grumpy,

Sideband itself wouldn't have anything to do with. SWR is a factor that is tied to the frequency, not the "mode" of operation. If your SWR is high on AM, it will be high on SSB and vice versa. Flip thru the channels and see if it is higher or lower on another channel. Then transmit on AM, then SSB. Betcha you'll find that it is in the antenna. :-)

Grumpy, check and set your SWR in AM or FM mode. You need a carrier to calibrate the meter and get a accurate reading.
