Say, I've been in cb for over 20 years. Needless to say, I love it. I plan to be going to a convention later on in the year. I'd like to find some way to use my cb in my hotel room. What kind of antenna should I use and how should I set it up since it seems there will be nothing to ground it to. If anyone has any ideas, I'm all years. |

get a room high up in the air, and use a dipole hanging out the window. if you get up high enough, you might even use it vertically.

id ask hotel owner for permission first otherwise you might bekicked out of room .my suggestion is put one in your moblie and get a big amp |

Now this guy is a real hardcore cber!!!Back of the set antenna or a mag mount stuck on the heater or fridge near a window. If you use an amp your gonna blow up the neighbors! |

First of all, get a room as high up as possible and with a window facing the area you want most of your signal to go.
Next, get one of the 40 channel walkie-talkies with the extendable antenna and hold it so most of the antenna is out the window (most hotel room windows only open an inch or two). Bring a 12 volt power supply with the appropriate power connector for your walkie-talkie so you don't have to buy a ton of batteries.
Next, be warned that you may find yourself with an extremely high noise level, so don't expect to have base=station performance! Also, you may end up interfering with someone, so I would definately NOT use an amp or run illegal in any way. Hotel security will be on their tiptoes as it is with the terrorizm garbage going on.
Last, if you wave the antenna around a lot, you will attract attention. Position the radio so that it does not move around while using it. Some extra pillows will work well for that.
I like to listen to shortwave when I travel, so I have done this many, many times with portable shortwave radios. I hope you have a lot of fun and meet many new friends! |

Hello, I have used what I call a tee antenna, nothing more than coax with suction cups on the window and sometimes with an antenna matcher. I wouldn't worry much about Hotel problems. I just listen for the room next door responding to my transmissions or not. I bring my old Jcpenney 40 ch.ssb which is 12 or 120 volt and a kl-60 ran off one of those jump starters with a 12-volt plugin outlet. If you do get a room pretty high up,say 40' or more above ground clutter you might talk back to the locals where your from. I did this at Daytona a couple years ago talking back home riding skip for about 45 minutes on LSB 38. Good Lock AK 3383 cental Indiana |
