My connex 4800 came yesterday.have a few questions about it.with the rf gain up all the way everyone gives me 3 s units more than my other radios.Also with the fine clarifier set at 12:00 i have to turn my course clarifier to about 10:00 to get it on frequncy.now i may be wrong but shouldnt the course be get the radio of freq when its set at 12:00 like the fine or no?why is everyones signal 3 s units higher on this radio than all my other radios? |

The clarifiers on mine are off too, but from what I hear it is not uncommon. Key the radio and set the corse so that the TX is on frequency then unkey and use the fine to set the RX. If you need to clarify someone use the fine, this way you will not change your TX frequency.
As for the receive, it may be more sensitive than your other radios or the meter on the connex may just be generous. |

That is why a good alignment on ANY radio is a good idea. Find a reputable tech and have it aligned correctly, TX and RX and it will solve your problem |

hey i have another question i havent hooked this radio up to the meter yet.how many watts will it do on high power? |

According to my Astatic 600 meter on high I get about 38 watts PEP. Might be able to do more but this is where I set it to work the best.
Don't worry about the clarifier. My course is off also. It suppose to be close to center freq when the course falls into the notch it locks into at 12 o clock. I pulled the knob off to line up the knob better when it locks to the 12 o clock postion. The notch is a pain you think? Still its over a hair to the right to get centered on the freq counter.
The 4800 is a bit more sensitive in recieve but 3 s units sounds too much. Regardless I myself would not worry as long as really nearby stations do not peg the needle slammed to the right. Just a thought but maybe the other radios have stingy meters?
Your gonna love the 4800. Use a good mic. Today I will order the new mic from Copper and I will let ya know the results it has on my 4800. |

I dont know about singy meters.I mean I have 9 radios and this connex 4800 is way off.I always keep my rf gain up all the way on all my radios so I tryed to match it up with all my other radios.I turned the rf gain way down past half way and now its where it should be.not sure why its so far off but im going to try to find what i turn inside the radio to bring it back down. |

I get about the same power from mine as Hotwire does. If you want to adjust the S-meter VR-1 is the AM/FM S-Meter & VR-2 is the SSB/CW S-Meter. |
