Has anyone here ever built a Slim Jim for 11 meters? I have been thinking about trying to build one and suspending it between two trees. |

Not quite sure what a "Slim Jim" looks like. Guess I need to do a Google and find out. I built a standard wire dipole from some spare coax I had laying around. Works pretty good suspended between two trees about 20 feet up. |

I think I know what your talking about. A guy near me is an antenna builder. He has a 50 something foot long antenna between 2 trees. He is the king of local coverage around here. Do a search for Bighair antennas. May find it interesting. |

Ok, I'm back. Ran a search on it and now I know what you are talking about at least. Looks interesting. Not sure how you would suspend that between two trees. Being made from copper tubing, (recommended but not completely necessary) it would be fairly heavy but I suppose "could" be done. Looks like a fun antenna project to experiment with. Maybe I'll try it when I get some free time since the weather here is starting to turn more spring like and I can venture back to my unheated garage now.
I only looked at the first page of the search and am a bit confused on the connection of the coax. From the diagram I saw it looks like it would be a complete short of the coax once it was connected to the antenna. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong and will do some further investigating and look at other diagrams/drawings of its configuration before making the above assumption.
Good luck if you build it, and post back on the outcome if you do build it.

I was thinking anout just making it from tubing with some sliding joints for fine tuning. The coax could be connected with hose clamps and maybe eventually soldered.
As for mounting, I was thinking of tossing a rope over two tall trees and hooking the antenna on the rope in the middle. From what I read, it needs to be isolated from ground and metal poles. |
