I'm getting a 706mkIIG, and was wondering which antenna/antennas to get. Will be installed into my Ford F-350. Will also pull double duty in the shack when needed. Currently have a Wilson 5000 centered and drilled on the roof.
Suggestions for both the mobile and base applications are needed and much appreciated.
P.S. It does have the 11meter mod already done, if that makes any difference |

capt this radio goes DC to DAYLIGHT! I have the matching wire antenna tuner and with a 8 foot whip it will go from 40 meters to 10 no sweat.
I like han sticks but they are for one band only so you have to change antennas unless you have the tunner ..... |

So....if I get the tuner, I should be able to use the Wilson 5000 correct? I'm new to the ham stuff, so I don't want to damage any equipment. I have not used a tuner before.
Which tuner do you use? Will the tuner help when the ICOM is used as a Base with the IMAX 2000 which is tuned for CB channel 20. |

Depending on where you plan to talk, you could just get a dual band (2m/440) for the VHF and hook your Wilson to the HF antenna jacks respectively. This setup of course limits you to 11m, 2m and 440.
The Diamond X-50A works good for a base 2m/440. |

A CHEAP antenna for HF is a G5RV with a tuner ... works well.
I use a DX-CC but it is good only for 75 40 20 15 meters and needs a tuner to work on any other band ....
Now on VHF a diamond 2000 6, 2 and 440 vert works well. |

I use an Outbacker Stealth Plus, so what if you have to pull over to change band taps? It's short, rugged, puts out well enough, just don't use an amp with it. Hamsticks are also a cheap way to go, but a bit too long for my liking. |
