Would someone please help me out with this. My modulation needle is way off the charts when I'm keyed down and talking. I to cut back the power but it won't come down any until it's almost completely turned down. Radio checks seem to be good though from what I've heard so far. I'm afraid that it's just way too much modulation.

I wouldn't worry about what the mod meter on the radio says because most likely it is not accurate. Just as long as it sounds good. How many watts does it dead key and swing (on an external meter)? The info I have says not to exceed a 40 watt dead key. At a 40 watt DK, 100% modulation should be about 160 watts pep.

Dead key is right at 40 watts. Swing is way up off the scale over 150 so I'm not sure. Thanks for the help Moonraker.
