hello all. i did a search on the group here, but didnt see much as far as comments on this radio. just got one in the mail yesterday and works very well, but i have few questions..the radio sits vertically between the console and passanger seat and the display washes out if not viewed directly over the radio. i cant relocate it, no other place for it. anyone know if there is a contrast control for it or set at factory and none-changeable? also i know the astatic 575m6 mic is no longer being made, but anyone using a different hand mic then the stock one that comes with it, and if so, what are you guys using? i do not want the echo mic stuff....just good hi-fi audio is what am after. thanks for your time.

There are a couple people that has the old 2950's and they really like them.

I have the 2950DX and love it but the only problem I have had with it when it get's really cold outside it take's a while for it to warm up.

Does the 2950dx have the same display lighting problems as the 5054dx? My beautiful blue backlight quit, I sent it back to Ranger (RMA) had great customer service, the radio came back with more power out, better alignment but the display illumination only worked for another month or so. Its aggravating during an opening when the batteries run out on my booklite which shines on the freq display.

Znut,

As I posted to the exact same question of your's in the:
Ask The Tech » Ham Gear » New Radio Dilemna

Not sure about the 2950DX but our 5054-DX has not had a single problem with well over 3000 hours of on air time in the last year and 1/2.

Sorry, I cannot offer any help.

Maybe some of the 2950 DX owners can jump in.

Yes sir, I wanted some extra exposure for this question.

My 5054dx could be an oddity, I figured if it was a common problem someone here would know.

Thank you.

So far knock on wood as stated the only problem I have had with my 2950DX is when it get's real cold it's real slow to warm up.

And when the DX is rolling I have made some real good contact's with it as well.

My old style 2970 works great also no problem's.
