Well no one wants my problem. I live in an apartment. YUP! I have been checking on antennas and really coming up with nothing. Anyone have any suggestions and where I could buy what I need? Another problem, I have heart problems and can't do anything physical. Now jump in there and solve my problems.. LOL!!

try a square loop - 1/4 wave length on each side, strung around teh ceiling. Feed it in a corner with RG-58 or min RG-8. Should tune up at 1.5 to 1 or less and work reasonably well. |

Patrick i have the same problem. I have heard about carpet loops and other antennas that can be used on the interior. I personally have not tried one but once you find one that works can you send the info. my way? Thanks

Have a balcony? Thought about a dipole? they work darn well. Be careful running power around close neighbors.

do you have 8.5 foot ceilings?
do you have a sraight run 17 feet long where you could string a piece of wire?
if so, you could use a half square antenna.
do a google search for instructions on how to build one, but basically, its an SO-239 connector up in the top corner of a room or outside, with a piece of wire attatched to the center pin going straight down for 102". attatched to the ground of the connector is a 17' piece of wire running horizontally, and at the other end of it, another 102" piece of wire is attatched pointing straight down.
it looks like an upside down "U" but with corners, and is fed from one of the corners.
not sure if this is too physical for you, but if you could solder the wires to the connector, someone else could hang it for you.

Good news for me anyway. I'm am going to be moving soon, the location to where i am moving I can put up a tower. (About time), now i just have to make the tough decision on which antenna to use...Hummm... Patrick i hope you get something worked out.

If you have a balcony here is my idea.
I like a "Delta Loop". Easy to make. Just use this formula. 1005 divided by frequency. So, a Delta Loop for CB channel 20 would be about 37 feet total length. The sides and bottom don't have to be the same length but an estimate would be about 12 feet 4 inches for each of the three sides. A delta loop is basically a triangle that is up on its side.
You can feed it at the top or in the middle of the bottom and get a horizontal signal or feed it 1/4 of the way up a side leg and get a vertical signal.
You feed it with a quarter wavelength piece of 75 ohm cable. 234 divided by frequency times the velocity factor of the cable. If you need the cable longer use a barrel connector to attach any 50 ohm coax cable to it. The 75 ohm cable is called a matching stub so you go from 1.7:1 SWR to 1:1. It brings the impedance down to 50 ohms.
This is a great antenna and is also very quiet. The way it is mounted can be very forgiving. One leg can be smaller than the other etc. You just have to keep the overall length the same.

might wanna try a saturn 3 ft base antenna
i really dint know much abot them.
it is a no ground needed antenna.

i have the midland version of the saturn. swr's of 2:1 on any freq are the best, it is not tunable & performance lacks. i use mine when 'testing'-its performance works fine as a 'signal attenuator'  . if you just wanna talk locally it'll work fine. if you're up to building one of the antennas suggested, try that. i'm sure performance would exceed the saturn/midland, & you'll gain a bit of knowledge & experience as well!! |

I used to live in an apartment that did not "allow" antennas. Luckily, I was on the top floor (3rd). I had an A-99 on a 10' antenna pole, that would mate up to an angled flag pole mount, that was bent a little more to allow the antenna to be as vertical as possible, and clear the roof eaves. A little thought was needed to be able set it up and break it down. I cut off the slip joint ends off a couple of pole sections and fashioned a quick mount setup on both ends.
Once I got it dialed in, it worked like a champ for 4 years untill I moved. I set it up and broke it down whenever I wanted to use my trusty Jackson as a base station. This was in the mid to late 80's. |

Try using a mobile antenna on a pizza pan, if that dont work keep the antenna on the pan and put them on top of the refridgerator. It worked for me for a simple and temporary solution.
