Which would be better to go with a 102" whip or a wilson antenna?

Sniper_62881,

After trying both over the years my personal choice is the Wilson 1000.

But if price is a factor and you still want an antenna that will perform exceptionally and handle as much power as you can throw at it,
SS 102" can't be beat.

Sorry, Lon, them Wilson's are just to pricey for my budget.

But a lot of the forum members swear by the Wilson, so I know it's a good antenna. Just WAY out of my price range for a performance antenna.

Here's a good discussion comparing the 102" and Wilson 5000:

http://www.copperelectronics.com/cgi-bin/discus4/board-auth.cgi?file=/29/73419.html

I've only really ever used a 102" and have always liked it. The only problem I've ever had (and it's not really a "problem") was; I was on a ferry boat in the open front and a seagull flew into the antenna causing it to (with the help of the spring) hit the car to the right of me then then the car to the left. Fortunately both drivers thought it funny.

Disclaimer: the animals involved showed no appearant signs of permanent damage, not counting their ego.

I have heard that if you get a wilson the 5000 is not much better than the 1000 for less wattage. Is that true?

Go for the Wilson 5000, it has bigger coax to run more power.

whips rule...
for about 10% less antenna & for 3x the price the 5000 is o.k.
