I am new to this hobby. Expect Santa to bring me a Galaxy DX-2547 Base for x-mas. I asked for the Big Stick antenna too. I plan to run coax from inside the house to the antenna which will be mounted on the peak of my house which is about 25'. Do I need a ground wire for this antenna?

Timetraveler, you should not need a ground to operate the rig. You should proved a good ground path to earth in case of lightning however.

Good luck

never hurts to run a ground wire from the ground bracket of antenna to a copper rod in the ground. or you can always grab a gound at the lightning rod ground wire on your roof. hey good luck and enjoy the hobby.

Thanks Marconi & Honkytonkman593 for the information on grounding the Army Big Stick Antenna by Shakespear.

I have another question related to the antenna:

Do I need to worry about tuning the Army Big Stick? If so any info on how to do it would be helpful.

Thanks,

The Timetraveler

Shouldn't need to tune the ABS 1600 at all.
