Hello folks
got my self a used Magnum S9. Everything works great except one thing and thats the FM mode.
After some time talking the FM power dropps from 40watts to 10watts and rigth down to zero and then just jumps between 10 and zero watts out.
then I release the ptt. and this thing starts over again, it does not matter if the SWR cirucit on the back og the radio is on or off. my antenna is clean for swr, also checked this via a dummyload with the same result.

Yours Sincerly
Tom

Only thing I can think of would be the high duty cycle on FM. Perhaps talking with the VR power around 10-15w would stop it from overheating?
Didn't think you could turn the VR high enough for 40w FM power?

Just an idea...good luck!

Hello Hank
The FM output is fixed to 40 watts can`t change it with the pwr knob.and I cant find any VR pot for FM,the only mode the pwr knob works on is AM.and the only way to reduce output on ssb is using the mic gain.

hello again
seems that AM and SSB also is effected by this, but in these modes AM dropps from about 9 Watts to 2.5 watts an stays there(not jumping up and down) on ssb from 40watt to 12watts, this happends when the S9 has been on for a while 10-15 minutes or so.

Not a radio technician by any means, but sounds like the final output circuit is running hot or has a voltage regulator breaking down, even possible the pre driver, driver or final transistors are weak. the cause of running into a high SWR before you got the radio. Sounds like it might have to make a trip to Sam Lewis. The radio can't be all that old. I don't believe the warranty is transferable. On the other hand I would not trust just anyone to work on a radio the likes of an S-9.
Just my thoughts and 2 cents worth.
