Hi. OK, I installed everything. I went from my radio to my meter with a 3' foot cable, then from the meter to my antenna with 18 foot cable. I tested the SWR, and everything is fine. My question though is this. If I remove the meter and now plug the 18 foot cable directly from my radio into my antenna, won't the SWR now change because the 3 foot cable and meter are no longer inline? I effectively changed the length of cable at this point, and many people say that the length of coax is important. Now what about if I want to add an amp inline? Should I go 9 feet from radio to amp, and 9 feet from amp to antenna for a total of 18 feet? Do I run into the same situation after doing my SWR's with an external meter? Thanks,.

The length of the coax has been a widely disputed thing on this forum. Some say it matters, others don't. Some say use what you need to make the run from the radio to your antenna. I would say that if SWR was good with your 3' cable and meter inline then it should still be within tolerances when removed. I suppose there could be some degree of change, but don't think it would be enough to cause a problem. Let the debate begin!.... again....

If SWR is in the ballpark of where you
want it with meter inline, it will be fine
without meter inline.
If the SWRs are low, then hooking an amp up
shouldn't change it that much. You can hook
your SWR inline while amp is inline also to
check how much amp increases Swrs.
I take it the 18ft you speak of is from the antenna. Just start with a 3 ft jumper for amp.
