this radio has no carrier or audio and i tried testing the pa and nothing. i can hear everything on the recieve. but thats it. thank you. gary |

I'd first check the 2SB754 transistor located on the chassis near the power jack. Then the one right in front of it.
Then I would check the audio chip. Of course others will say that if you hear the receive it isn't that, but I'd check it out anyway.
Then I'd move to the driver and final.
Well, first I'd check the mic. I'd try another one and see if that helps/solve the problem. You'd be surprised how many guys have carried radios to the shop and been charged repair bills over a mic wire that was broke.
These are the first ones I'd check out. Good luck. |

Just thought of this too. May not be your problem either. There is a regulator on the chassis also that sometimes gets broke loose. If you tighten the knobs into the side too tight cause the bracket is wider or whatever, it'll break the solder sometimes.
You might want to check that too. I'd look for bad connections first, that would be easier to fix instead of replacing parts.
You can go to Radio Shack and pick up a fairly cheap transistor tester. It will check transistors, diodes and some other stuff. I think I gave like 15 bucks for mine. It's not the best piece of equipment I have, but so far it has never been wrong. Saved me a lot of trouble. You can use a volt/ohm meter, but I like to just hook it up or plug the device into it and push the button. Easier and quicker to just see if the BAD light lights up, right. |

Therealporkchop, thanks for your help the mic i check it on my mic tester and works and i touch up the voltage regulator and nothing but i will in the morning check all the others you mention.will get back to you tomorrow with the results, again thank you. gary |

No prob.
I had a similiar problem with a 44 and it turned out to be the 754 transistor. So you might wanna start there. |

Therealporkchop,i went straight to the rf driver and final amp this morning and changed them and works perfect again. again thank you for the help.you know i work on so many radios and never write down the solution, but today i am gonna start. take care. gary |
