OK the best place to mount any antenna is as clear of metal as possible, which basically means on the roof.

Mag mounts will work BUT, in theory, a properly mounted antenna that has the base trhu the roof with the gorund part actually touching lcean clear metal should always work better.

Now I understand that not every is like me and prepared to drill a rather large hole in the roof of their vehicle and as a good comprimise most 6ft plus antenna, if mounted on or thru a fender, generally work acceptably. Now as I meantion in another post in this topic just because someone seems to get good results from a particular antenna/mount combination on their car does not mean it will work the same for you. The only real way to know is to buy/borrow/beg an antenna and base and try it over several days.

Now, if you think you have a problem - right now I am trying to work out how and where to mount a 2m antenna on a little MGB - no roof and not too much in the way of a fender and as this is a classic car I am reluctant to drill any holes.

i was not impressed by the lil wil at all.

a wilson 1000mag mount will work great for you if mounted on the roof.

Rickbrk,

WILSON 500 or 1000 Mag Mount, both will work great depending on how much power you have going out.

lon, i think your post may be a bit misleading to a newbie. (no offense rick)

how about this:
if you are going to put out 400 watts PEP or more, then you HAVE to get the wilson 1000.

if less, then you CAN go with the wilson 500.
BUT!
regardless of the wattage; the wilson 1000 is the better antenna of the two, and will perform better.

i dont know, maybe its just late and its me,
matt
