Hi. The biggest ladder I can find is 40 feet. But the tree I want to mount the IMAX antenna to is about 80-100 feet. How do I get that high? It is in the backyard and there is a fence around the entire property (About 1/4 acre.) Thanks.

Jameslarson,

Not trying to be funny here but if you do not have a ladder that big and you cannot get a bucket truck in the yard then YOU or someone else will need to CLIMB the tree.

My advice to you is to pay someone experienced
to do the job for you.
Makes me shudder just thinking about those
heights.

Yeah, i am afraid of heights as well. When you say experienced, do you mean experienced climbing trees, or with antennas? finding an antenna guru out where I am will be hard. Do I look in the yellow pages for "professional tree climber"? Thanks.

call the fire dept. and tell them there is a cat up in the top of that tree.LOL
ok, ok, enough joking.

lon has a good suggestion with the bucket truck.
not sure, but maybe you can rent a boom lift that will get you up there.

seriously, this is a big job, and should not be taken lightly.

unless you have experience in this field, i would not recommend trying to climb the tree.

the theater i am in right now is 98' to the high steel, and let me tell you; when i am up there hanging by a harness looking down at a gaping 100' hole, i take EVERYTHING seriously.
sweat can hurt someone from that height! j/k

i wish you luck in this.
i wish i could have an antenna at 100'!

James- usually jobs like that are done
with a bucket truck as Lon and Kid mentioned.
I have never installed or watched anybody
install an antenna in a 80-100ft tree.
I would suppose if you can not use a bucket
truck is to find someone experienced in tree
climbing as Lon mentioned. Trees are tricky.
Watching out for weak branches and such. Woooo
i'm getting dizzy just thinking about it.
Take a walk through your phone book yellow-pages.
Tarzan would be the perfect person for the job.

James, maybe you could use 8-10 hvy duty mast. Someone up in tree holding and pulling up antenna and mast, someone adds more mast to the bottom while pushing it up.

chad,
if i did not hang them, i would just have to trust someone elses points, and this is MY HOUSE!

BTW, i dont know how i keep getting roped into this stuff, but i just had to climb way up onto the speaker stacks to take a measurement for our sound dept.
could this be because i am the youngest guy on the crew by about 10 years, excepting one 21 year old spot op?
oh well, saying yes has kept me employed pretty steadily!

sorry for the hijack, ignore me,
matt

Did you ever fall for the "bucket of steam" prank? Air shackles?

Myself,I wouldnt even consider putting an antenna that high unless it was on a PROPER tower. It is too hard to climb a tree with the proper safty harness and belt.there will more than likley not be any rung-spaced branches for climbing and too easy to loose your balance when the tree starts swaying in the slightest breeze.
