OK. Now that I have some reomendations for a switcher, please recommend a low pass filter. Again, quality is key here. i don't mind spending a little extra. Also, would be nice if it handled at least 1KW. Thanks. |

--I use the Bencher YA-1 myself. It's about $80, though. It can handle 1500 watts continuous and 5000 watts peak. Great low pass filter. |

A Low Pass TVI Filter is designed to be placed between your transmitter and antenna or tuner to reduce your Transmitter (Radio) harmonics that are emitted when you are transmitting.
Harmonics can be the source of interference to your neighbor's TV, Radio, VCR, Telephone, etc.

Roger, It may help it or it may not. If you
have an antenna of any type hooked up to
your TV. Try a low-pass TVI filter for on
your radio and a high pass filter that
hooks to your TV. Try one of them first, if
it doesn't help it, get and install and combine the other filter with it. Might also help to
get a ferrite core and wrap your TV AC cord
around it a few turns. Also your Cb antenna just might be to close to TV antenna and overloading it. Disconnect any VCR, video game, ect. you have in-line and see if it still puts lines in your TV. Do all the easy simple things first. Cable TV and Satellite TV can be a different
ballgame. But, i think i read somewhere that you have a TV antenna hooked up. |

James, I use a Nye Viking filter. If you can find one I recommend getting it. Probably one of the best ever made. All radios installed in the home especially if you have neighbors is a must and good operating practice. You will also have a cleaner signal and your amp will perform more effiecently since it will not have harmonics to amplify.73

The sticker says: WM. M. NYE COMPANY, INC.
then has a address and phone #.
Would this be a NYE VIKING???? |

Hotwire: reason why i'm asking is i really
don't care for how this older TVI filter
is built. It has 1 hole left open on
each side of it. Don't understand why? It has never been used, so, that's the way it was
built. The case is also poorly put together.
It's a all Silver color (bare metal color).

This is all my filter has printed on its decal besides the Viking emblem. It is a 2.5 inch wide cylinder and 9 inches long. Just confirmed with tape measure. Kinda like a tennis ball canister shape looking device. It is all bare aluminum with female amphenal connectors on each end. The case is riveted together and has 2 long bolts that run through it on the sides with nuts to attach ground wires securely.
My particular filter is solid as a rock. You can detect the coils inside if you knock it around cause they viberate. Could it be possible that someone before you may have damaged your filter? If yours is sqaure shaped maybe its much older or actually not a real viking? The one I have is really indestructable and I have never seen another brand filter with the same structeral integrity. It cannot be damaged by accident so you would actually have to use a force like a hammer or blow torch or steam roller or wrecking ball to destroy it!
If what you have is a real Viking filter then sounds to me like somebody tampered with it. Back in the day items like the Viking swr meters switch boxes and dummy loads were choice. |

Bought my brand new in the 1970's....LOL
Never used it because of its construction.
Only been out of box several times.
WM. M. NYE COMPANY, INC.
Has 24 rivets in it. 3 screws on each side
where female connectors are located.
And there is 1 open hole on each end.
That baffles me as they should be enclosed. |

it is an excellent filter.
if its possible to open it; check to see that nothing is burned, shorted, or disconnected, and you'll be good to go.

I feel the best filters are ones that are
NOT put together with alot of rivets.
Ice makes a filter with no rivets and is very well built and will take alot of power.
If anything ever happens to my MTI filter,
the Ice filter will be my next one.
Not sure about Drake as i never owned one. |

i love it. it was recommended by lou franklin in a book of his, and when i found one on an auction site i bought it!.
either of those should do nicely.

This Drake filter basically looks like a carbon copy of a Bencher YA-1.

James, That Viking silver colored cylinder filter looks identical to mine. 15 bucks is a good price. I have never had a problem with mine. |

I "was" having TVI problems...put some ferrite chokes (from radio shack) on all my cable coax to the tv's and wallah...no more interference! Worked for me except them things are high priced for what you get $5 ea. Payoff is well worth it though. Just my 2 cents worth. |

Bencher YA-1 all the way. I bought a cheap Para-Dynamics one like that one posted, and it doesn't work.
The Bencher is a ham quality LPF and works good running low power and medium power. Mine doesn't filter 100% of my full power, but does help.
