i recently did the npc-rc mod to my 9000. i had to go back and realign one of the pots to the correct wattage so i went back and resoldered tp7, now i canot get a voltage reading form the other test points. was wondering if you could point me in the right directions. the radio was working perfect even when i ran it but the relizaed that i could get a reading. the radio still powers up .thanks ken.

is the mirror board making good contact with all the prongs?
take it out, and squeeze the prongs together gently with a pair of needle nose pliers, and then re-insert the mirror board.
make sure the cap is oriented the right way.

ahhh, i think i may have the solution here.

you are testing for current right?

to do that, its not the same as testing for voltage.
instead of red lead to positive and black to ground, you need to insert the meter leads "in line" with the wire coming from TP7.
in other words, unsolder the wire coming from TP7. black lead to TP7, and red lead to the wire coming from it. if the current reads negative; switch the leads.
make sure you have the meter set on milliamps.

if you have already attempted to measure the current in the incorrect fashion you may have blown the internal fuse in your multimeter.
open it up and check the fuse; then do it the way i layed out here.

good luck, i hope thats it,
matt

no, I am sorry.

i did not pay enough attention to your posts, and was confused.
please disregard my previous posts. DOH!

now, i went through the mod that Tech 808 provided, and you should too, just to make sure we are on the same page.

"i recently did the npc-rc mod to my 9000. i had to go back and realign one of the pots to the correct wattage so i went back and resoldered tp7"

i think you meant that you had to realign one of the pots for correct CURRENT, not wattage.
i dont know why you had to do this unless you messed with it after you already set it, as the bias adjustment is made before you even volt the final.
it seems to me that if you made the adjustment correctly the first time, you should be able to do it again.
something doesnt add up here.
i dont understand how you could have done it correctly once, and now cant do it???

seems more likely that you got a radio with the mod already done to it, and turned the wrong VR looking for more power.
hmmm????

assuming that you were the one to do the mod, then the only thing i can guess is that you have the multimeter set on voltage instead of current.
although i doubt that if you had done it once already that you would have made this mistake.
again, something doesnt add up here.
matt

reomve the wire you added going from TP7 (rear hole) to 13.8 volts.
remove it completely.
using a short piece of wire, jumper the two holes left after TP7 clip was removed.
make sure your meter is set to milliamps.
to set driver bias:
Connect the DVM-Red meter lead to TP9
Connect the DVM-Black meter lead to TP8
(mirror board OUT of radio)
Turn the radio ON
Adjust the radio controls to SSB LSB or USB mode, No Modulation (mic gain all the way down)
Depress the microphone key
Using a PLASTIC (or other non-metallic) tuning tool
Adjust VR11 for 50ma reading
Turn the radio OFF

to adjust the final bias:
leave the red meter lead on TP9.
move the black lead to the jumper you just added.
turn VR 10 and VR20 all the way counterclockwise.(all the way down)
turn radio on to LSB or USB.
mic gain all the way down.
key mic.
adjust VR20 until the meter reads 50mA. (milliamps)
now adjust VR10 until the meter reads 100mA.
remove jumper, replace wire going from TP7 REAR HOLE (closest to the rear of the radio) to the 13.8 volts trace.
replace mirror board.
you should be good to go.
good luck,
matt

It kinda sounds like he left the modifications in place and then put that test point connection back in place and inserted the mirror board.

If he did that, wouldn't you basically be sending too much voltage to some parts of that radio? If so, then something could be blown and that could be the reason why he isn't getting a reading.

Of course you might have a voltmeter that doesn't read milli-amps. If it just shows regulars amps on your meter you might as well forget it. You won't get any reading like that either. Been there, done that.

In the words of Rocky The Flying Squirrel..."Now here's something you're really gonna enjoy"...

I just crank those pots wide open cuz. I usually like to set mine the totally incorrect way and it's been running like that for 3 years now without any trouble and it's loud and proud. I set mine while whistling into the mic and watching the wattmeter. Once I see it all peaked out with nothing more to give, it's over...tuned.

Boy howdy...I hate to admit that one. But I did my 77 that way after I installed matched finals and it's been like that for 3 years or better. No problems at all. However I don't suggest you do it that way...wait around here until you figure it out or someone helps you figure it out.

Good Luck!!!!
