I have a Sommerkamp TS2000DX which is the same thing as an RCI 2950 aside from the name. The receive is not receiving and the transmit is not transmitting. Now the receive does have static on FM, AM, SSb, and CW...but no transmissions are being heard.
I tried looking for the IC5 and I don't have that, I have an IC15 on the board which I already tried to resolder. Anyone have any other ideas?
I should include that when I got it, the battery was ripped off (Yes, ripped) and the pad that the + is soldered to was gone, but I took care of that. Also, the board # ends in 12Z not 13Z. And lastly, I had a tech look at it and he called "the guy who helped design it" and he said that one pin that's supposed to have 2.5vdc has 5vdc.
Any response will be appreciated. |

Almost sounds like a VCO problem... that would affect both receive and transmit.... it's a common problem on those rigs...
Take the top cover off and use a capped sharpie marker to press on the board.. press in different spots and see if your receive/transmit comes back. |

Ok, so I found out the problem and I'm posting it up to let everyone know.
There was a lifted solder pad which broke a trace completely. It was on the side with the 2 pieces of aluminum on the VCO side. That took care of receive.
The Transmit was IC15 (or possibly IC6 the tech changed) andddd......Q51. |

Well now I know my VCO is bad, because I got stupid and started messing with the VCO after it got fixed. |
