My palamar 300e doese a great job. Moving it to my wifes jeep. I would like to try a texas star. At least a 350.Similar power as my palamar would be good.My 148cb is stock 4wats.Which would be better texas star dx 350 hdv which is high drive I think or a texas star 350 low drive would like to keep my cb stock 4wats.All advice is apprecated. |

You just want your amp to key up a quarter of it's rated output. So if you are running a 350 you want your amp to key up at say 80-90 watts. Whatever it takes to do that and you will be loud and clear. |

I ran a Cobra 148 2 watt dead key and around 20 watt swing with a Texas Star DX 500V. Worked great. The Texas Star 350 would go well with it also. Its a good idea to have the radio tuned to the amp to get the best performance its capable of. At 4 watts the amp will only do half its output. I have never used a high drive amp before. It probably uses more amperage if your driving the transistors harder for more watts. Or maybe it does the same watts but is built to handle the higher drive. Or maybe its a trick to sell more amps? I don't know. I have looked at the specs and the 350HD does the same as the regular 350. You would think driving an amp with higher watts you would get higher output. To me its confusing so thats why I treat all amps the same unless we are talking custom. |
