Hi. Has there ever been a CB Walkie Talkie that had/has Single Sideband? Just curious. Thanks.

I have a spitfire 454 it's a 10 meter radio am / fm / SSB and from my frount lawn i've worked costa rica ....
As for HT's on 11/10 meters there not very good much to much antenna needed. Even my 6 meter HT uses a 54 inch wip.

James,

Cherokee also made one, the AH-100. You can still find these on the internet auction site from time to time but usually go for a bit.

YES! My friend just bought some model
of Walkie Talkie with Am/SSB and he also
modified it for some channels above 40.

Hi James. Bruce might want to step in here, but if I remember correctly, back in late 70's or early 80's someone had a AM/SSB CB Walkie Talkie. I almost bought one. I just do not remember the brand. I want to say Lafayette or Radio Shack, but I do not think it was either one of those.. I am not familiar with the one listed above. If I should run across the info, I will pass it on to you. I jsut wish I would have bought the one I saw back then. :-)

I have the Cherokee AH-100, It is AM & SSB, modifiable to 400 channels (10 bands of 40 channels). I have the short antenna that came with it, the longer whip antenna available through Copper's, and I also have the MAXON telescopic antenna. The MAXON works the best.

Here are the different one's to look for:

Cherokee AH-100 AM/SSB
Titan RPSY-201 AM/FM/SSB
Magnum SSB-1010 AM/FM/SSB
Intek SS-201 AM/FM/SSB
Dragon SS-201 AM/FM/SSB
Dragon AH-100 AM/FM/SSB
Albrecht AE201 S AM/FM/SSB
Eagle Spitfire 454 AM/FM/SSB

James, the one my friend just bought DOES
NOT have SSB. It is a Midland.
The one that he has with SSB is called a Cherokee.
He's not sure if they make it anymore or not.
Do a search for Hand-held Cbs with SSB.

A friend of mine had a Cherokee AH-100 and it drifted quite a bit on SSB both before and after warm up. Connected to a power supply (and a base antenna) it still drifted, so it wasn't the battery. I had to constantly tune him on the clarifier, and he had to do the same.

It did a maximum of 6 watts PEP on SSB from the factory, and he had to make it do a little more, so that may be why. I seem to remember him getting the power turned down to make the battery last longer after he used it for a while, and I think it still drifted then too.

Good idea, not executed very well.

That's the same model of Cherokee my friend
has. We tested it last night and it seemed to
drift alittle as Hollowpoint states.
The Cherokee AH-100 was discontinued in
2005.

Back in the 70's Midland sold a 3 channel rock bound WT with SSB.I don't remember the model number and I'm sure not many were sold due to the price.

I have a Cherokee AH-100 and will absolutely agree with Hollowpoint445 about the drifting.SSB is much more voltage sensitive than AM,and I'm suprised the manufacturer of this radio maybe didn't take this into account.

The problem with all 11/10 meter Ht's is the size of the antenna required to make them work well. My spitfire 454 is a neet toy on 10 meters and i have fun with it but with a antenna it realy shines !

I noticed a big difference between the 3 antennas I have for mine, with the metel telescopic MAXON being the best, unless being hooked up the the IMAX counts.

Oh yea.........the IMAX crumbled during Alberto.
