Quick question. I have a chance to pick up a new-in-box General Grant, all gold face, gold knobs, gold bezel, etc. My question:

Is the receiver plagued with white noise like other RCI products (I'm spoiled by my Uniden Grant LT), or is it a pretty good product receiver-wise? Is the modulation loud and clear like my Grant LT, or is it run-of-the mill?

Thanks.

the general grant is an rci6900ftb....150 watt version of the connex 4800dxl/cobra 148fgtldx...& last but not least, a galaxy 95t. UGH the 4800 & 6900 i've found have different receive characteristics then the 95t, less characteristic galaxy ills, & the general grant seemed more rci-like. it is NOT an LT/XL by any means, but the ones i've seen had impressive rcv as well as xmit. to limit xmit woes, ones hands should be kept away from these radios internals.

Rogee-o. Thanks for the info. What do you think of the new 6900-F150 with SMT in the receive department compared to the Grant, the S-9, and finally the 95T?

I'm guessing you'll say it's not as good as the Grant and the S-9, but better than the 95T for receive. I mean, is it plagued with poor receive and lots of "shhhhh" like Galaxy's and even, from what I hear, the 2950/2970's?

the 6900 & 4800 i played with when debating between 'em was not 2950/2970 like. much less SHHHH, & they were pretty much equal in overall rcv dept. my stock S9 & modded XL are too close to call by ear. but definitely more sensitive then the 4800/6900(my ar3500 is the quietest, & also most sensitive receiver i have of any CB).

i never had a 95t here with the 4800/6900, & out of the ones i have seen, there seemed to be a big difference in white noise-some the SHHHH was noticeable, & in other 95t's it was truly galaxy-like.

a general grant i did the 11m mod to was fairly quiet on rcv, not as sensitive as my S9, but if i could hear it well on the S9, i could hear it on the genl grant.

it was NICE on xmit, too, AM & SSB. minimal drift, no wobbles, no overmodulation....novel approach was not to crank everything wide open & it worked!
