Hi. On the IMAX, you know how there are those two tuning rings? OK, so let's say the SWR is high on 40 and lower on channel 1. On a mobile antenna, we would lower the whip by either trimming the top, or simply lowering the whip into the shaft. What about the IMAX though, in which way would the rings go, up or down?

Also, are the rings independent of each other? For instance, what would happen if one ring is all the way lowered and the other all the way as high as it can go?

Also, do all the IMAX 2000's come with the rings in the same spot from the manufacturer (Like dead center, or whatever)?

I'm like 99% on getting the IMAX. I can't seem to find a better omni in this style. Is the maco any better? The only thing that concerns me with the MACO omni is that it is aluminum, and also a little more of an eye sore to "non-cb" people as opposed to the IMAX 2000.

Thanks.

I had a few Imax 2000's and never had
to move the rings on any of them.
Usually come from factory set for in the middle
of the cb band.
I think one ring keeps other one from moving.
Been a long time since i adjusted those rings
and that was on a old A-99 years ago.

If you move the rings 'up', it will raise the resonant frequency (lower SWR's above channel 40)

If you move the rings 'down', it will lower the resonant frequency (lower SWR's below channel 1).

The only reason there are two skinny rings instead of one thick ring is so you can lock them in tension against one another to keep them from moving due to vibration.

The Maco is very slightly better. Yes, the Maco is much more of an 'eyesore' then the Imax 2000. The Imax 2000 is much easier to assemble than the Maco.

i think the imax is perfect for your situation.

if your SWR is higher on 40 than on 1, turn the rings up.
if higher on 1 than 40, turn the rings down.

isnt that backwards?or does it tune differently then mobile antennas.i know on mobile antennas
i tune them for above 40 and i have to majke antenna shorter not longer.id think ya have to turn rings down unless they tune different than mobiles.ive never touched my imax so i dont know
im going by how mobiles tune

Dale- Turning tuning rings up on Imax makes antenna appear shorter which lowers SWR above ch 40.
Same result as when you have to trim your
mobile whip antenna to lower SWRs above ch 40.

Both the Imaxs I have needed no tuning. The manual that comes in the box read that the antenna is pretuned at the factory for cb channel 20.
