HELLO ALL....BOUGHT A NEW MAGNUM S-9 FROM COPPER...INSTALLED IT IN MY 2005 MONTE CARLO. ON SOME OF THE CHANNELS I GET SOMETHING LIKE A CARRIER OF S7-S9 BUT ON OTHER CHANNELS THERE IS A NORMAL NOISE LEVEL. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING. WHEN THE CAR IS OFF,ALL THE CHANNELS ARE WITHOUT THE CARRIER. I AM PICKING UP MY POWER FROM THE CIGARETTE LIGHTER AS THIS IS ABOUT 20 AMPS,MORE THAN ENOUGH TO RUN AN S-9. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS WHAT THIS CARRIER IS FROM AND WHY IT IS ONLY THERE ON SOME CHANNELS AND WHY ONLY WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING?? BTW,IM RUNNING A WILSON 500 ON THE TRUNK LID. PLEASE HELP ME TY MIKE |

first thing to do is unhook the antenna from the radio while the car is running.
is the noise still there?
no? then the noise is coming in from the antenna, and that usually means that you have to filter the problem at its souce. (im thinking its the car's computer in this case.)
try going to wilson's website and go to their tech. section. they have specific cures for specific vehicle problems. might check to see if the 2005 monte is on that list.
ok, if the problem was still there after unhooking the antenna then the noise is getting in from the power source.
the thing to do is run the power from the radio directly to the battery.
just because the cig. lighter is rated for enough amps doesnt mean that its a good connecting point for a radio.
a power inverter hooked up to a hairdryer woulnt care about all the noise being picked up, but your radio does.
you need to run a 10ga. or bigger wire to the battery.
i would also install a noise filter inline with the power wire.
magnum makes one that will work nicely.

First off run the power directly to the battery, not through a cig lighter no mattter what) Next check the antenna, Is it a mag mount or trunk or trucker, make sure it has a GOOD ground. |
