Leaning toward the Galaxy 95T. My new Magnum S9 is everything it should be and more. Just can't get enough good radios. Who knows, they may run out of them some day. Between the 95T and then 4800 DXLE, which would be best for a barefoot mobile? Thanks. |

the 95 t is not really 'barefoot'. i'd go rci690025 or 150 before 4800, lincoln & omega force somewhere in there & the 95t.....

Hawkeye, Well I for one love the 4800. Sure maybe there are better rigs like the ones Pat said. After owning a 4800 for 2 years I am very pleased with it for SSB work. AM is not bad but I feel that the 4800 is up there for SSB. Other rigs have more features but the 4800 has just the basics, besides ridiculous echo and talkback. The recieve for AM has the common noise floor but once you switch mode to SSB its dead silent. I get nothing but good reports. A reasonably priced SOLID rig for SSB work. Myself I would go for the Connex 4800 over the Galaxy 95T for qaulity. You can also use a smaller amp for the 4800. You need a BIG amp for the Galaxy. |

SSB is hard to tune on the 95T. It's a fantastic am radio, though. I didn't say it was a bad SSB radio, just not as clear as my Magnum radio.
It would be nice to go try them both out somewhere or at a friends.

You certainly do. I just posted that very fact on the Dx contacts for this week and directly to you. How about that?
Plans are in the works to get the high powered Magnum S-9. Wouldn't it be great if Magnum combined the best features from both these radios (S-9 and Omega Force)? In my opinion all the Omega needs is a big round faced meter and the package would be complete to my liking...well, and 175 watt version!

yup, i've been wondering about a 175 watt omega...intriguing! that was my grant XL with 2 watt dead key you heard sunday mike. . saturday night i had the 9 watt dead key/38 watt PEP S9 on my maco v5/8 SCREAMING on AM13. most of the regulars thought i was in my mobile....contacts on LSB38 were also giving awesome signal reports....ALMOST rivaling my ar3500 
you'll like the reports you get on BOTH AM & SSB with the S9....but you already knew that! |

Im going to have to go with the connex 4800 dxl.I dont like galaxys cause there meters are not good on sideband at all.But my connex 4800 really kicks on sideband and it doesnt really drift much after itS warmed up!UNLIKE A DRIFT BOX GALAXY.LOL |

I'm not going to knock Galaxy but when it comes to SSB its Connex 4800 over Galaxy any day of the week!
You can't go wrong with the 4800 as far as SSB goes.
Sure there are other export radios that will give the 4800 a run for its money. The Lincoln is no doubt a proven performer! Also a lot of members say the Magnum SSB radios are top notch and #1.
Maybe it's because I own one but I feel the 4800 is among the best of the best with its very clear SSB reciever. Sometimes I can't tell if it is on until I hear a distant station!
I'm going to own a Magnum S-9 in a few weeks. Once I get to work SSB with it I'll let all the fellas know if I decide to change my tune. I really do hope it gets better but its going to take one heck of a radio! |
