hi,
i just got a new base antenna and getting ready
to put it up. just wandering should i ground the
antenna or just ground the pole it will be on.
i have heard to ground the pole and not the
antenna, is this right? i thought the antenna
ground plane should be grounded.

its best to run a heavy gauge (like bigger than 8 ga.) solid copper wire down the mast to the ground rod.
attatch this wire to the U-bolts that hold the antenna to the mast if possible.
the reason is that masts have multiple sections that are only "physically" connected.
that could be a high resistance point and impede the path to the ground rod.
multiple ground rods are also a good idea.

Probably the best would be to ground from
antenna brackets to ground-rod with heavy
gage wire or copper strap. Most masts are
painted or if using multiple pieces of mast
they are not making good connection with
each other. |

thanks for all the help, everyone.
just got the antenna up and grounded just
like everyone said. i put in a ground rod
9ft long in the ground and used #8 wire from
the u-bolts to the ground rod. it talks great
with a swr of 1.2 to 1

YES, ALL ANTENNA'S.
On ALL my Antenna's, Beams and IMAX and 2/6 Meter I have all mast pipe's Bolted together along with the Antenna's grounded to the mast pipe's and the mast pipe's grounded to the tower's and all 3 legs of the tower's grounded.
MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS GROUNDED!
