I bought a used galaxy 99 the other day.it seems to have some problems.the voice changer doesnt seem to work right seems like the guy used it alot and broke it,it works but not like it should,it feedsback and squeals.also on sideband people tell me it sounds like its starving for power like if you shut a car off and talked on sideband.not sure what that would be cause its hooked up to a 35 amp power supply.also the small clarifier on sideband i have to have it all the way to the left and my bigger clarifier thats unlocked at about 1 oclock to be on frequency.anyone know what could be causing these problems?thanks

ok i hooked the galaxy 99 up to my astron 35 amp power suplly and everyone tells me its not starving for power anymore.i guess my palomar amp and power suplly combo isnt 35 amps?funny though it can handle my connex 4800 dxl but not the 99 for some odd reason.im wondering if i can somehow run my galaxy 99 off one power supply and then the amp/power supply combo run that somehow off my astron 35 amp power supply?not sure how i would do that if its all possible?

I doubt that Galaxy would draw anymore than 5a max. I run a Delta force off a 7a supply and the 2 pill (2879's) off a 25a supply. Never starving. As a matter of fact I run my Grant off the SAME supply as the 2 pill...together..no problems.
My guess would have been perhaps a bad connection at the supply? Breakdown in the power cord? Did it seem to cure ANY of your other problems?
Question: Were to seeing the lights dim on the radio in SSB mode when modulating?
That would have been the biggest clue if starving.

Freebird, it sounds like the TX off sets are also
missed aligned too. I aligned a galaxy 77 about 7 months ago with the same clarifier problem.
You can also try unlocking the fine clarifier it will work better on ssb when trying to tune in other stations...
