first i must say, this radio is awsome....

i bought this radio as new factory sealed, i performed the complete alighment after expanding the recieve range.. i imediatly noticed that the frequency is slightly unstable, it apears to be the freq counter, butt might be sompthing else? if i am on band e, am and i center the freq (27.2050) and switch to either ssb it starts to float from 27,2049 to 27.2051 back and forth sometimes stoping on 27.2050, if i change from band to band without touching the clarifier it will be dead nuts on one band and float on the next and that changes from band to band and from channel to channel, the transmitted freq seems to be extreamly stable always being dead nuts on regardless of what the internal counter says..

the other thing i noticed right away is the switch for the clarifier rx, rx/tx, off does not work correctly, with the switch in the rec. only position the clarifier will still change the tx as if it is still in the rx/tx position...

the last thing i have had a problem with is the talkback squeeling, with the mod set to 96% and the talkback on low it will squeel with the mod peaks ( hello squeek ) turning the mic gain down has no affect until there is hardly any mod. this is with the stock mic, and with the d104m6b the squeel just gets a little louder with the d104, i have tried the two resistor changes r-224 and r-221 and have goten it to not squeel as loud butt i lost some of the talkback volume, i have taken the resistance values to there extreams and it still squeels, i am going to try the cap on pin 4 of the audio ic and see if that helps.. i am curoius if you think r-187 might be the answer??

other than these minor problems this radio is performing excellently, (far better than what i say with my cobra 200 gtl) the first radio check i got on air was 750 miles away barefoot. other than the channels and talkback the only thing i did was add the swing diode to the high power vr so that i can drive my 4 tube high drive with it and perform an exact factory spec alighnment (excluding the rf power) and i am seing peak pep swings on am of 225w from a dead key of 2.5w and ulmost 300w of avg peaks on ssb.

the meter light brightness could be a better match to the panel light brightness.. butt it is not nessary and seems to be a easy resistor change on the dimmer pc board..

sadly,

i have experienced some rather disturbing things in my life recently and i have been forced to sell this radio along with half of my other belongings just to survive and save my dog's life,

i have not had the chance to test any further on this awsome chassi..(690010d) the freq. problem seems to not effect the performance in the least bit. the rest of the issues i had with the radio, most people would not even notice. as an excample the radio was excatly as i described it in my last post when i sold it and the kid that bought it from me tells me it works perfect with no squeel. i will be buying another one when i get back on my feet.

happy 73's
