I've got a 1996 model 148 gtl that had the power plug in reverse (no center pin on radio)...anyhow the covers where off when I turned the power on..I watched D44 go up in smoke. Schematic lists it as a SR1K2...can't seem to find one...anybody got a suggestion? I know I know replace the power socket on radio!!! Thanks, Hooty |

Just replace the Diode with a 6 Amp Diode,look at your local electronic parts supply store(RS).

it is a silicon rectifier diode rated at 1 amp.
you can replace it with a 1N4001 which should still be available at radio shak.
i wouldnt replace it with a 6 amp diode because if the radio is hooked up backwards again, you may damage other parts before the diode goes.
the NTE equivilent is NTE116. you can go to their site to get the specs.

Matt,
The purpose of the diode is to pop the fuse if the radio is hooked up backwords.the reason the diode popped instead is either because there was no fuse inline or a fuse rated higher than the current carrying threhsold of the diode.

dennis, arent most CB three pin power cords only fused on the positive?
that would mean that if the radio is hooked up backwards, there would be no fuse inline.
maybe i am misunderstanding your comment.

Thanks for the speedy responses!!! I tried a 1N4004...the radio comes on now but transmit light flickers when keyed now and power is eratic?(spelling) |

Is this part (1n4004) o.k.? Think it might have hit something before or after this part. The meter light and transmit light dim/flicker when keyed and power is eratic..maybe it's an excuse to buy something else..hehe |

the 1n4004 has a higher prv rating and will serve the same purpose.check tr-44,2sa1012(part of voltage regulator) for a short across the emitter-collector junction.If the power switch was on when you blew the diode it could have been damaged.
Matt,
the reverse polarity diode acts as a 1 way valve to allow current to flow and blow the fuse when hooked up backwards.

thanks dennis! so there was no fuse in either lead coming from the power source.
i think you may be thinking of a different chassis.
in the 148gtl, he wants to look for TR41, which is a 2SD1135 most likely. could be a 2SC1419, but judging by the date of manufacture, i highly doubt it.
hootyal, either way, replace it with an NTE 291 transistor.
if not that, im going to guess the MB3756 voltage regulator may be intermittant.

Thanks for the proof-read,good catch.After I read your last post,I checked and found I pulled the wrong schematic.That info I gave was for a 146gtl.
