Ive used many mobile meters for 10 and 11 meter radios, the best cheap one I found was the rat shack 2000 watt meter, reads peak swr and average watts, A higher dollar one was an Aries digital peak reading meter it only reads about 600 watts, not sure the model # but both are the only ones made by the makers with those functions that i know of.

i like the types with a 'remote' sending unit. that way you can have the meter up front with you, without the extra length of coax going from back to front. the autek research wm1 is a real good choice....but the cable to the sending unit is only 4 feet long-good for back seat amps, not trunk mounted. the palstar wm150m has a longer cable, but with only a 300 & 3kw scale, is better suited to those running some power-though it is about $40+ cheaper then the autek. lastly, the older kenwood & yaesu meter with the remote are real good, too, if you can find 'em.

Spydrman,

CLICK BELOW

DOSY TR-1000 Mobile Meter

Features

* Remote Watt Meter

* Includes Mounting Bracket

* Large 4.5" back lighted Meter

* Two Watt Ranges:0-30W,0-1000W

* Includes a SWR Bridge and modulation

* May be left inline

On our lat trip to Copper Electronics I checked this meter out and it is VERY WELL MADE.

Now for the SAD PART I picked it up, Opened it and talked about it with the Forummaster and the COPPER TECH and set it down and forgot to add it to my list and bring one back with me.

Next trip I WILL REMEMBER to BRING ONE BACK with me as it will be VERY HANDY for doing Check's on MOBILE SETUP's and save me disconnecting & hauling my other meter's outside.!

Hope this help's,

Lon

I have a Dosy and love it. I personally prefer a 3 face meter, so I dont have to click knobs from swr to watts and to modulation. While driving, you can monitor all 3 at the same time. By being able to moniotor all of them while driving, you can prevent damage to your equipment if conditions change like a coax or jumper going bad, antenna losing a load, loose connections, etc.
