I just bought an "Mint" HR2510 off yahoo's auction site. When I got it, I did the recieve mod and put a channel guard in it. I hooked it up and asked for a radio check to get the signal meter set. Everyone said I sounded muffled and not right. Well, come to find out he had the power cranked to the max. I turned down the power and all was good. I tryed for awhile to get some skip on sideband with no luck. Tonight I finally got some people to talk to on sideband with it. They said I sounded all muffled. The alc was cranked. I tryed to turn it down all the way, but then no modulation on am. I have it deadkeying at like 13 watts which seems high, but that is to the antenna. I haven't tryed to see in the dummy load. It's doing about that on ssb, but people say that it sounds like it's not getting enough power and is off frequency. I know how to get it back on, but because of them saying that it sounds like it's not getting enough power, something else might be wrong. I think the guy got screwdriver itis and put it away like he said he did cause it sounded all crappy. Anyways, is this something I can do myself. I know how to do some basic things, but I don't have a scope or a signal injector. I am reading books right now, but don't think I have the experience or knowledge to fix it. I was hoping for your input. If you think I can't fix it on my own, do you think I could send it to you. I don't know of any good techs or anyone that knows what a waveform, detector, scope, rf smp, etc. is. I have my email setup in my profile I believe, if not post and I'll hook you up with it.
Thanks in advance.

Are you using it base or mobile, the 2510 does pull more current than most mobiles, they have the big final. You should be able to leave the alc turned up, there is a SSB and AM power adjustment, the radio will sound better at 5 watts AM, also the stock mike is not good on AM. You need a power mike to start with, then turn the am and ssb power down. With the top off, those adjustments are on the left, toward the back. Maybe this will get you started, Scrap

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM UNTIL I PUT A 10 AMP POWER SUPPLY IN LINE AND THEN IT DID VERY WELL.

B1kshadow,

2510 stock mics are crappy. Other than that, what the last two posters said to do are good suggestions. I keep the SSB power maxed in mine, while maintaining an 8 watt deadkey on AM.

Ch 6 is a joke anyways. They all sound like doggie doo doo anyways. LOL! Well anyways back to the 2510. When i had mine i ran a astatic D 104 minuteman handmike and it worked excellent on AM. Those stock mikes are junk! Another good mike to use, If you can find on in good cond that is, is a turner plus 2 handmike. L_O_U_D!

If You run it as a base, Try a Turner +3 desk mic. AWESOME!! :)
