Hello, I'm working on a Grant XL. The main board number is PB-208AD. The receive is very low when receiving distant stations but blast louder than normal for local stations. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem?

sounds like it could be an AGC problem.
not sure though.
have you tried giving the radio a full alignment?
sometimes, just by doing an alignment, a problem will show itself.

i will look at the schematic tomorrow and post if i come up with any ideas.

Yes, but I will go over the alignment again to see if it shows up. Thanks for your response.

nothing jumps out at me, and troubleshooting an AGC problem is pretty complicated. ive never done it, just read about it.

if the radio is an older model, (check where it was manufactured on the back of the radio), then you might suspect a bad electrolytic cap in the AGC section.
hopefully someone who has some experience with this will chime in here.
good luck,
matt

Thanks for trying. I'll let you know when I get the problem resolved.
