Heres an up date on a post i did a while ago on my TRC 451 with no receive and no tx on AM.Well its working fine now except for a little bit of carrier on ssb which i will fix later.I got a lot of help from a tech from a radio forum board I think is from the UK called RADIO MODS , great guy and very smart could be worth looking into for those puzzling cases.

for the carrier on SSB, there will be a variable resistor, or "pot" in the radio that is labled "carrier balance", in the service manual.
turn the mic gain all the way down, key up in LSB, and adjust this VR for 0 watts on your external wattmeter.

HI kid , well i tried the carrier balance but still up a bit, seems to get higher with the cover on?? Anyway it was mostly old dried up caps in the receiver section, plus an audio amp uPC 1182.Man this old radio is smoking , 20+ watts on ssb stock, and the TX audio is crystal clear with stock mic, very sensitive The guy who helped me was Rick on the RADIO MODS forum site I think the site is from the UK maybe, this guy sure knows his onions, I would recommend him to anyone ,hes been reparing for 35 years and has fixed 25,000+ radios during this time

if you plan on using this radio regularly, i would just replace all the electrolytic caps in it.
if you've found some, the rest are not far off, and neither are the associated headaches.
you might just cure your carrier problem while you're at it.
maybe about $20.00 worth of caps, just lots of soldering.

Hi Kid , well carrier is gone it was just a couple of coils in the tx section out of adjustment.
