Aside from using store bought or mail order chemicals, what do you use to remove solder flux on PCB's?
Something that won't ruin the board and works cleanly and quickly.

Chop i use an old toothbrush with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol but just a bit, worked for me with no problems.

Same here, a soft toothbrush and denatured alcohol, q-tips in small spaces. Sometimes I'll knock big chunks off with a small electronics pick.
Note: Kester makes a "no clean up" solder that works very well! It takes just a bit more heat and/or time but I love it!

I don't think I've tried that one yet. Seems like I read somewhere you could use acetone, but I tried that on one of my own radios and it didn't look so good.
I'll try that though, appreciate it.
Anybody else? What about store bought chemicals? Which one do you guys use for that? |

Seems like I did try alcohol but it didn't really do anything but I can't remember exactly whether I did or not. |

I use a q-tip and alcohol on the more delicate stuff and acetone on the pl-259's and similar. Actually I will use near about any chemical I have handy, WD-40, most anything that won't destroy what I'm working on, but then again what would you expect from a rat?

I'll try the alcohol tonight though. The acetone worked really well but it did give the PCB around the finals a "flat" look. What about regular fingernail polish remover, the non-acetone one?

Proprietary Hydrocarbon Solvent
Radio Shack sales this stuff in a little spray can with a brush attached. Its called electronic cleaner on the can. A little goes a long way and I have never had a problem with it. |

Chop, Well now I realize your looking for some type of home remedy. I really don't know what I could trust besides good old fashion elbow grease and tooth brushes. The store bought stuff is the only thing I feel safe with. Worth its weight in gold. 73 |

I've got that same stuff from RS, doesn't your leave an oily looking film? Mine does.
I was hunting something to use for the time being. I plan to order the right stuff, but you know how it is. I was going to open a small shop for Mustangs and call it "Backyard Motorsports" cause I was gonna start off in my backyard. Guess I've not got over the "backyard" part yet huh? |

It leaves a little residue but not really oily. What I really like is the ability it has to remove the glue left behind from stickers! |
