Ordered and received a stock 150gtl dx about 3 weeks ago. The radio has a problem with the audio breaking up. At first I thought it might have been my old silver eagle mike so this morning I started using the stock mike and it is still breaking up. I am going to contact Cobra today and find out about sending it back. Will let you know how good there customer service is. Had a friend of mine that got one and his was bad out of the box!! Couldn't talk on it at all without it breaking up. Will let everyone know the outcome. 73's

Your problem is the main reason I paid the extra 30 bucks to let Copper ck out and tune the radio for proper operation. I hooked my radio for the first time on the bench this morning to see if the tune had been done before I call. The radio is doing everything the Copper review says it will do. Copper did do the tune and Lon/Tech808 verified why the sticker was not there. Everyone here says the radio sounds pretty good. They said it was tinny with the stock mike but sounded 100% better when I put the D104 on it. The audio sounded fine to me with the stock speaker. The receive actually seemed like it might be a bit better than my S9, but I would have to have both hooked up side by side to verify that. I think for the price it is a good radio if not a great radio for the money even after paying the extra money. I knew if I paid the 30 bucks the radio would at least work once when I got it out of the box. I am satisfied and time will tell as to the radios reliability in the Jeep.

When I referred to the radio as being stock I meant that no one except the copper techs had been in the radio to tune and expand. I have had excellent audio reports on the radio and the power levels are great. What really impressed me about the radio was the heat dissipation on the thing. This radio does not get hot even when ran on high for extended periods of time. The only problem seems to be the audio breaking up. Has anyone else had this problem on the new models?

I have not except for normal stock speaker reproduction of sound. Try adding a high quality coaxial or triaxial speaker to it. I took a 5" triaxial speaker, soldered some wires to it, got a big coffee can, put some bubble wrap insulation in the can, ran the wires out the bottom, soldered a jack to it plugged it in to my Magnum and it totally changed the audio to something nice and clean sounding and able to reproduce all of the audio. Try it with the 150, it will more than likely sound a lot better.

Hi Wildrat. Cool picture. I think you possibly misunderstood the audio problem that I was talking about. The problem is with the transmit audio. The radio will be transmitting great then all of a sudden the transmit audio will start breaking up. You can actually see the power on the wattmeter fall off as it is doing it. I have no problems with swr or ground loops on the antenna system. I have a galaxy 66 that I can put in the line and it sounds and works great. I sure want to get this radio fixed because the receive is great. I also have had nothing but praise on the quality of the transmit audio when it is not breaking up.

I had a similar problem with mine. I was getting reports such as: "You say one or two words then you just drop out". I would then unkey and key up again and the same thing would happen. So, I called up Cobra and the operator gave me the address to one of the authorized Cobra 150/200 service centers and I sent the radio to them.

--After I sent off the radio (I sent it to the Tennessee location) it came back in about a week, or so. On the service order that was sent back with the radio, they wrote that "ec43 replaced". I don't know what that part does or why it was messing up the radio, but anyway it got replaced and now works perfect (for several weeks now). Hopefully, nothing else will go wrong, but at least it has a two year warranty.

The radio that I got is only 30 days old and I was assured that it was from the new stock. The chopping is getting worse as I use it a little more. I am going to send it to Tennesse next wednesday. Will advise on fix. Have 2 other friends here in town that have had theirs for 1 day and his was no good and another friend that had his for 4 days and it went out. Hopefully we can get these things straightened out. 73,s Bobby
