would a 29 guage sheet metal roof at 26 degrees work as a ground plane?

It would only be important if you're using a 1/4 wavelength mobile antenna installed as a base antenna. The roof would then have to operate as the counterpoise for the antenna. Assuming you're installing the antenna at the peak of the roof, 26 degrees of pitch isn't quite steep enough for a perfect match, but it'll be pretty good. The more important quality is whether the roof is electrically continuous, and that would depend on how it was installed. I'm not a roofer, but I know you don't solder galvanized steel, so how it's mechanically fastened is important. If you don't know, then all you can do is try it out and see. |
