i know with the antron 99 being a ground plain and i must say pretty darn good. is there any significant differnce in the distance on signal out put between the antron 99,maco Yquad and maco 103hv or is you just get the advantage of having horizontal and vertical polarization and back and side rejection. i guese what i am asking will the antron talk just as far. |

If beam is directed right
at someone locally you will see a nice increase
in transmit and receive over the A-99.
I would recommend going with something
bigger than the Y-quad though. |

is there a big differnce then between a maco 4 element shooting star and the new maco 103hv. i need sumthin light weight and easy to put up. kind of in a romote area and have to do install myself. heck i have the room for a laser 500 but no install help gotta keep it simple |

A beam is supposed to perform better because you concentrate your radio signal in one direction. BUT! In the real world it is possible depending on location, height, hilly or flat terrain, ect,ect that an omni could get better results. Its really hard to compare 2 totally different types of antennas. Side by side and at the same height and same radio I would probably put my money on the beam. You just never know and thats why I feel that a lot of cber's / hams use an omni right above a horizontal beam on their towers. Just a few cents tossed in there.

I think there is not a big difference between the M103HV and Shooting star. not a big noticable one anyway so if you need to stay light then go with the 103HV.

Having used beams: Shooting Star,SE White
lightning quad, M104
I didn't have enough room for both a beam
and a Omni groundplane as i wanted beam to
have both Horz and Vertical. Plus i have
neighbors very close. Within 9-30ft.
So, i made the choice to use a omni groundplane
antenna as i talk alot of local and everybody
is in different directions from me.
If i were to live somewhere with neighbors
that weren't so close and had more room.
I would mount a 4 element beam and also mount
a 5/8 omni groundplane somewhere. |

Why not mount the 4 element flat and omni on the same mast? Saves room and you don't have to erect another tower\pole for seperate ants. |

I would rather have a beam with both verticle and Horz.
My omni groundplane is metal with 9ft radials.
It does a all round great job, so, i'll stick
with it.

hey guys thanks for the imput i might just go with the new 3 element 103Hv maco has for ease of install. have a lot of guys i talk to but local talk for me is guys 40 miles plus, and its hard to get help from guys that far away. been using the antron 99 with great results but just want to get out a little farthur and maybe get some of that skip i here at times comming from overseas miss the flat side. 73's to yall |
